Just received another letter from the Australian Defence Dept regarding the mass grave at Fromelles.
In it was the info that Oxford Archaeology had been given the job of the full excavation plus a timeline of the planned events.
I'm assuming most of this will over-lap with British Defence Force plans so here it is for anyone interested -
May-Sept 2009
Excavation, remains to be stored in temp. mortuary, DNA extraction will be attempted, new cemetery to be built.
Feb 2010
The lost lads to be reburied in individual graves with military funerals.
March 2010
Decision if ID's can be determined or not.
April 2010
NOK notified of ID.
May-July 2010
Commonwealth War Graves to erect headstones (including identities).
July 2010
Commemoration of new cemetery.

Also, came across this small gem if it's of any assistance to anyone trying to trace someone - Red Cross Archives have a treasure trove of info.

May to September 2009's out for us. Going to be a bit busy elsewhere, I'm afraid. (Unless, of course, the price is right...)

A little tidbit of info that recently came to light in a news article on the excavation at Fromelles -
Peter Barton has stated in several interviews that archives have highlighted the fact there are possibly 35 more mass graves to be excavated.

One interview can be heard here
