In the old days they didn't clear up quite so well. This old wooden wreck was about 100 yds from River Dance:

Dave,

That older wreck in the final photograph looks like the Abana. I wrote an article about that somewhere...hold on and I'll try to track it down. Ah...here we go:

So they're just gonna leave it there? Not even dismantle it for the scrap metal?

Kristen,

As far as I'm aware it's already been dismantled for scrap (although I'm sure a few of the local hoteliers wanted it left intact as a tourist attraction). Well...when I say dismantled for scrap, I refer, of course, to the bits that were left of it that weren't flogged off on e-bay.

Kristen & Brian,
I drove up to Fleetwood from St Anne's a couple of weeks ago and there's nothing visible left of 'Riverdance'. The authorities plan to go over the site with metal detectors to check for anything left under the sand. The wooden skeleton of the old sailing ship Abama still emerges at low water.

I've got pics of the Riverdance in high seas:

As to what we found under the cowpats: Brian added to his collection of clay pipe stems, there were a few very interesting pieces of pot and we added to our growing collection of holes and aching muscles. A photo will no doubt appear at some point. Brian will have to make sense of it all for the excavation report.

Dave,

There were two particularly interesting fragments of pot from Sunday, one of which I'm hoping will confirm the date of our platform. I'll be bringing them along to tonight's meeting with full explanations.
