Hi Jayne son visiting from Australia in three weeks hurrah, he and his wife are Australian citizens now 10 yrs of hugs I think
Ahh the Illawalla clubbing nights, the in place to dance round your handbag. Loved it got mini bus and that gravel sounds familiar Brian. The pub in Skipool Creek was another in place and Queens Cleveleys, Victoria pub another cracker. I used to wear wild bright outfits and shoes and hats so perhaps we drunkenly bumped into each other on the gravel Brian. More pics of old clubbing haunts please.
hi all . not everything was destroyed when they demolished the "walla" a friend of mine has the dome from the front of the house , it sits on his two bedroom bungalow in thornton . he had the chandelier (sorry spelling) from when you walked in the main entrance . and several sets of velvet curtains . bought em off the people who were knocking it down . think he paid £25 for the lot . delivered !!!!!!!!! by the way does anybody have any idea how the hell they got permission to knock the bugger down , cause wasnt it a grade 2 listed building !!!! regards andy
I spent many a happy night in the Walla too. I don't think listings apply when they want to build houses on the plot does it ? It was a bit run down but it wasn't in that bad nick that they couldn't save it. I will now be looking round Thornton for a bungalow with a big dome on the top !
"the walla" was the best ever a fantastic club that people came to from miles around . im now a cabbie in thornton /cleveleys and mates from the cab who have been doing the job years say when the walla was open it was when the job was at its best . these days if we get a preston job its like 3 times a year , when the walla was at its best they were getting jobs all around lancashire , preston , blackburn , burnley regularly , people came from miles around to be at the "in" place !! hh dont look to far theres only one vets in thornton near a railway crossing , thats where you would find the "dome" to be honest its at the back of his house and i dont think you can see it from the road . cheers regards andy
Hi Shirley,
Hope your son and daughter-in-law have a good trip over!
Found a windmill in the middle of the country today and immediately thought of you and your grandfather!
I've posted 2 snaps of it on here

I've been doing a bit of research on the Illawalla, my intention was to model it on CAD as part of a college project but now its just a for fun (sad I know), should I be able to find any drawings. I always liked the building but I only ever remember it been derelict and never got the opportunity to go in. I spoke to Wyre planning department and they informed me that it was not a listed building and so they don't have any drawings. I have some news paper cuttings that the Gazzette and Fleetwood library dug out for me, but if any has an pictures they could send me from around just before it was demolished, it would be a great help or if any one has any idea where I could get drawings from.

Ken Emery gave me a bag of old transparencies a few weeks ago that he'd found beneath an altar at a church or something (er...I think...I'm probably way off on that story somewhere), and one of them (black and white I should say) appears to be the Illawalla. Unfortunately, however, it comes back to the fact that my scanner can't scan slides any more. Not that it ever could, but the scanner I had before this one, the one that exploded when I plugged it in one day, did have the ability to scan slides...if you see what I mean.
No idea where you can get hold of any drawings of the place though...other than the 'developer's plans' from the newspaper posted earlier in this topic.
I have access to a scanner that can scan slides, any images are useful. The council suggested I contact the guy who redeveloped the site so that'll be the next place to go for drawings.
