A reminder that there is a Wyre Archaeology meeting this evening at 7.00pm. DRAFT MINUTES of 15 May:

Minutes of Wyre Archaeology Group Meeting 15 May 2013
Present: P Ashman, B Culshaw-Phillips, D Hammond, D Hampson, H Ricco, B Rigby, E Shone, G Thornton.
1. Chairman welcome: Chairman Dave welcomed everyone to the meeting.
2. Apologies for absence: received from, D Berry, Chris Clayton, J Fairclough, A Munro, Carlo Ricco, M Shaw, F Smith, D Whalley, S Whalley, S Tingle.
3. Minutes of last meeting: Minutes of 20 March were approved as correct.

4. Matters arising: a) Website – Dave Hampson reported that he had located some of the former stationery which had a ‘strap line’ Preserving the Past for the Future and wondered if this should be used on the website. It was agreed that this would be preferable. DH to ask Dave Berry to change the website title accordingly.

5. Treasurer’s Report: Gary reported that the amount carried forward from the previous year was £263.07 but that, following receipt of new year subscriptions and receipt of payment for the provision of Harris & Hughes books, despite outgoing payment of our CBA subscription and insurance premium, that the balance of the account now stood at £668.07. It had been suggested that we might purchase a mini remote control helicopter to assist with aerial photography but Dave H reported that the cost would be prohibitive.

6. Executive Committee: None

7. Correspondence: a) Peter Iles: I did visit one of the society's digs .......full text at meeting b) Harris & Hughes: DH reported that he had emailed Brian to inform him that the Society had voted to offer ‘life’ honorary membership to him and Michelle. c) Gary reported that since LCC had not acted promptly to make payment for t he H& H books, he had written a letter of complaint on behalf of the Society.
8. Excavation Update a) Brian described briefly the excavations that had taken place on 5 May (H6& I6) and 12 May (G9). More detailed reports are available. B) The BIG DIG is scheduled for 21 to 24 June and details wil be emailed to members and other interested parties.

9. AOB: a) Hilary and Barbara reported that the exhibit labels in the museum had become damaged by damp and now needed replacing – and perhaps laminating. b) Ed asked for information about a site on the A586 near Larbreck named as ‘Old Castle’. There was a brief discussion about this and other sites.

10. Date of next meeting: Wednesday 19 June at 7.00pm in Portakabin
