I worked at the Miner's Home during 1979 for about 6 months and thought it was one of the most fascinating buildings ever. There were many secret corridors, a theatre room with a stage and a games room with billard tables. There were two walk in telephone rooms with leather seats and doors to keep out the sound......amazing. I had a lot of fun exploring when the bosses back was turned.

Hi Melanie62,

I also worked at the Miners Home in the Summer of '79 in between leaving school and starting college, we must have worked there together. I worked in the Dining Room (although it looked a little different in '79 than it does the photo above). The building inside was beautiful, all wood and brass. I remember the walk in telephone boxes and the lovely carpet in the entrance hall that they'd had specially made with images of Davy Lamps woven through it. Talk about no expense spared!
