As a child during WW2 , I remember an imposing concrete building in Blackpool Rd Kirkham .
It was unoccupied but I understood that it had been a high class up market nightclub , catering for show biz and high society clients It had supposedly an indoor swimming pool etc .
Later on the building was occupied by various business'
, including Milsons Toffee Factory .Tower Batteries , Campbell Caravans etc . Has anyone out there any information about it's pre war status ? . Regards Teddyboy .

Ted,
I've at last found someone who can confirm the presence of a club in the former Tower Batteries building on Blackpool Road. Acording to my source who saw inside the building late forties / early fifties, it was a bit run down and scruffy by then, but he said the decoration was impressive with ornate plasterwork etc. He seemed to recall he was shown inside by a Mr. Champness, who he thought may have been in the stationary business.

Frank.

Thanks for your efforts Frank . I find this subject very intriguing . Lots of muted innuendo about the place . From what I can gather , local involvement with the place seemed non existent .From the fragments of conversation I vaguely remember talk of Show biz , High Society , Luxury cars , all night activity . All this talk was second hand . I don't suppose we will ever know the full story .

1969 -Barney Campbell set up Campbell’s Caravans near Preston, and soon moved into the old Tower Batteries (then Hartley’s caravans) location on Blackpool Road near Ribby Corner at Kirkham. Campbell’s moved out in 2013 to consolidate at their Clifton premises. The building had been used as a night club and as Milsons Toffee Factory in the past. In 2015 it became Motor World – a car sales and hand car washing outlet.
