Joolz,

I know this place. I bought a couple of dining chairs from there once. Didn't realise it was closed. Mind you I haven't been round Layton for ages.

The building's still there but I'm assuming that the business has closed, has it? Time was when that little front yard was jammed with exotic furniture and secondhand goods from around the world...well...from around Layton at any rate. Now all they seem to have is a large garden buddah and a bit of dead tree. Or is that just because the photograph was taken on a Sunday?

I should have known. It's next to the traffic lights, isn't it?

Hi - the building is an old barn, built in 1886 and is believed by locals to have belonged to a farm which stood on the corner, and which was knocked down to make way for Devonshire Road.

The barn was bought in the 1980s by the people who own Patrick's Salerooms on Church Street and was used by them as a workshop for stripping pine doors etc. They now sell "old bangers" from there.

I would love to find more about the farm, but can find nowt of use - I'll keep trying though!!
