Earth tremors hit Fylde coast

The Fylde coast was hit by tremors on Tuesday morning

A POWERFUL earth tremor has hit the Fylde coast, shaking houses and shocking residents.
Residents from Knott End to St Annes have reported a strong shaking, lasting around 10 seconds, at just before 11.30am.

British Geological Survey bosses confirmed there had been a tremor which was believed to have registered 3.7 on the Richter scale.

Gazette reader Sonje Jones from Thornton said:"Me and my colleague working in Thornton definitely felt the earth move.

"We thought it might have been an explosion of some sort."

Another reader, from Dover Road, Blackpool thought his house had been hit by a lorry.

"It was quite frightening.

"I thought a truck had hit the side of my house at first, I was quite shaken up."

A spokesman for the British Geological Survey said: "We picked it up on instrumentation.

"With a magnitude of 3.7 it is relatively small.

"We get one of this size roughly once every year in the UK and they rarely cause any damage."

Apparantly Blackpool is most affected as it looks like a complete wasteland with people wandering around in a disorientated state and some are so shook up they are being sick on the pavement. Resources must be so short as fighting has broken out in the streets. reports suggest that it will take hundreds of millions to make Blackpool town centre useable and billions to make it a pleasant place to live once more.
