Weather permitting (so you'd better check back here before Sunday morning to be on the safe side because it's looking a bit changeable at the moment) we'll be continuing our excavation at...ahem...you know where (location with held due to various reasons) from 9 o'clock onwards on Sunday morning.

Please bring flask, trowel, spade, hat, butties and all the usual paraphernalia with you. Hope to see you there...

Happy birthday Melanie. If you get bored with having the great great grandchildren round, you always know where to find us. (If you turn up at the right time you'll be able to boot me into the trench and backfill it for that last cheap shot at your age as well.)

UPDATE:

The weather forecast for this Sunday (i.e. tomorrow...i.e. i.e. Sunday August 23rd 2009) is looking a bit glum at the moment (predictably, perhaps). Having said that, according to the Met Office it should be overcast and on the verge of rain outside right now, whereas according to the view from my window it's actually blue skies and bright sunshine.

I'll make a 'decision absolute' about whether to proceed with the next stage of the excavation or not, tomorrow morning, I reckon...so stay tuned to this message board.

Brian

UPDATED UPDATE:

According to the Met Office it's going to bucket down all day.

Clearly the Met Office is wrong because right at the moment (roughly a quarter past seven on Sunday morning) it's bone dry.

According to the BBC forecast, it's going to be dry until this afternoon and then it'll rain.

According to Sod's Third Law, if we don't excavate today it won't rain at all, but if we do excavate it'll probably chuck it down the moment we've offloaded the equipment onto the site.

So, bearing all that in mind and remembering that I can't personally do anything about the great British climate and/or the information that the Met Office is supplying to the general public (I've tried praying but it doesn't seem to work) I've decided that today's excavation is at least worth a shot. (So long as it hasn't started raining by 9 o'clock that is.)

Let me put it this way, if it's raining outside (or has recently been raining outside) whilst you're reading this, then the chances are we'll have abandoned the dig and gone home again. On the other hand, if it's dry then we'll probably still be soldiering on.

Can't say fairer than that under the circumstances, I'm afraid.

Fingers crossed the rain holds off long enough to get something out of the day, and hope to see everyone up there.

Brian
