Well, it`s a wind turbine actually, but as high as Blackpool Tower. Can it be seen from the wrong (ie Western :P ) side of the Fylde?

I think the press are misleading us by saying it`s as high as Blackpool Tower (158m, 518ft). The wind turbine is said to be 126m high, about 410ft.

Phil,
The CAA states that the turbine is 410 feet above ground level, and 550 feet above mean sea level, so both figures are true in a way. Acording to the Dewlay website today (5th) is the official opening or switching on-

July to August 2010: Contractors on site
September 2010: Turbine arrives and is erected - wind turbine on 40-day commission
5th November 2010: Official launch event

Key facts and stats

• 126 metres high
• 330 cubic metres of concrete used to fill hole for installation of turbine
• 40 tonnes of steel will be used as reinforcement in the concrete
• 1,600 cubic metres of earth excavated for hole 20m x 20m x 4m deep
• Will reduce carbon emissions by 2,992 tonnes per year

We are very proud to welcome Charles Hendry MP, Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change to Garstang to officially open the turbine on 5th November 2010. He will also unveil its new name, which has been selected by a local child who will also be present at the event.

Its new name? I didn`t know wind turbines had names. Are they female like ships? It`s a bit like a scarecrow so perhaps Worzel?
