Every time I drive past the Eros statue in the middle of the roundabout coming into Fleetwood, on the A585 Amounderness way, I wonder what it was put up for. I`m told it was a whim of the lady who owned the Fisherman`s Friend factory, who just liked the idea. Anyone heard any other explanation?

Please don't think I'm teaching you to suck eggs but are you aware of the history and function of that particular statue ?

To quote Uncle Albert "During the war"
All of London's landmarks were deemed to be at risk from the blitzkrieg.
So a cunning plan was hatched to replace the real thing with replicas where possible.
So for 4 years this statue was "EROS" in picadily square.
The real one was squirrelled away in a safe location so should the worst have happened it would be safe.
As it was it survived unscathed so years later it was put up for auction and that's how it ended up on a roundabout on the outskirts of Fleetwood.

Thanks for that - I didn't know. I take it that the "stand in" Eros was sold off? I wonder how much the lady paid for it. Are the facts well known around those parts?

'This lady;', Mrs Lofthouse, has been a very generous donor to the town and people of Fleetwood.
