I was surprised to hear that deer are so common that 750,000 may have to be culled, muntjac being possibly the most common. I must say they don`t appear among my list of threats to civilization. I`ve only ever seen one small deer in several years of cycling around the Fylde. Anyone else seen many?

I agree. I get out and about a lot and my only sighting of deer was one I startled in Scotland twenty odd years ago . It looked at me ,I looked at it, then we both ran off in different directions !

Stayed at the Shard Riverside recently and one of the staff members told me about a herd? of deers which had come down from the Bowland Hills the other week.

Could have been for the nice pint of real ale at the Shard!!!

For my sins I was once a milkman in Lytham and Ansdell, and often saw Muntjak deer on the outskirts of Lytham. They are quite small and easily mistaken for a large dog, especially at night, and I believe there is a small herd in the area.

I have often seen deer early morning whilst walking my dog on Ingol golf club I have been told they use the railway line from Blackpool to travel along during the evening then access various places via holes in the fence.
Also I have seen deer whilst out on the fields of the fylde whilst out metal detecting as well as hares, foxes, badgers and lots of other wildlife including lots of large birds of prey including golden eagle peregrine falcon and buzzards
