Hi

Can anybody in your group advise me as to where NORCROSS COTTAGE was situated during the period of the First World War? Also where was the boundary line located between Thornton and Carleton during this period and when did it move to it's present day position?

Many thanks

Regards

Eric Curbishley

The term “Norcross Cottage” doesn’t show up in any directory I can access. Presumably, it was on Norcross Lane. I think the Carleton/Thornton boundary is best seen on the “1913-1914” 1:10,560 map on www.old-maps.co.uk. It runs along Anchorsholme Road East then south west nearly as far as Tarngate railway crossing before turning south and following a stream towards Poulton.

It would surprise me if the boundary has changed. Carleton would be in Poulton Rural District Council area and the other in Thornton UDC which would become Thornton Cleveleys when the two amalgamated or the new name was adopted.
