After examining the latest copy of the Fearon & Eyes chart on the Wyre Archaeology website, I notice that Wardleys isn't mentioned at all and Skippool is only mentioned in conjunction with the mill. So what is the earliest primary source that gives evidence for the ports? The early Poulton registers name Skippool as a place but, as far as I know, not as a port.

In 2002 I attended a talk at Poulton Historical Society by Alan Keenlyside concerning the River Wyre Estuary. It had a lot of salient information about the history of Skippool and Wardleys. I will run off a copy of the booklet he gave me for you and bring it to the Christmas meeting on the 18th.

1002 -Saxon women from Poulton allegedly chased the Danes out of the village, towards Skippool. The little port on the Wyre is written as Skippon on old maps, and is otherwise known as Skiffe-Pool and Skip Pool.

1237 - Maud de Wardley was born in Wardley.
