Hello, my name is Adrian Rowe and I have been tasked with writing copy for the new pub page of the Thornton Lodge on behalf of Greene King, as it is converting from a Fayre & Square to a Chef & Brewer in the next few weeks.

I have already found one or two snippets on your forum and other sources, referring to a previous inn (The Ousel Inn) and to its time as the Buccaneer restaurant (although I can't corroborate this). I can also see the building, described as Thornton Lodge, on OS maps from 1891, although it is not appended with PH (public house) until the 1981 map.

Does this mean it was a private residence during this time? Was is at any point the Lodge house for Thornton Hall?

Any help much appreciated. My email address is [email protected], and I am based in Manchester.

Many thanks

Adrian Rowe
