Just seen on BBC North West news the story of the continuing rise of King Scar.

As soon as the reporter called it 'Britain's newest island (just off Fleetwood)' I knew in an instant where she was talking about.

It would appear that KS has risen considerably - and seemingly rapidly - in recent times and is now out of the reach of the highest tides. Any idea why this should be?

The reporter also mentioned the possibility of KS being the site of a Roman port, which we all know as Portus setantiorum.

Views please...

It isn’t King Scar itself that is rising, it is a shingle ‘dune’ that’s been there for many years. It was described in a piece on a walk to King Scar in the 1950s by two schoolboys from Fleetwood. I’ve seen and photographed it from the air many times over the last ten years and have noted it changing in shape and size. I will try to get some photos of it at present to compare with ones I have from years ago.

That sounds good Frank - I saw your pictures on this site some time ago and would love to see more.

I have a fascination for ports and like to believe that PS is on or near King Scar.

Just hope they don't build a McDonald's on it :)

Photos from this evening 12/05/2016 . Difficult to see where the bank is with regard to the North Wharf. I will have to see it at low tide and look at previous photos.

If it is to remain and become established it needs a name, I will start with Isle Setanti, more ideas please.

Maybe an arty farty photo will give you more ideas for a name !!!

Franktastic!!! Thanks for these images.

Just a variation on your name for the island - 'Setantii Island' or 'Setanti Wharf'.

I would love to walk out there.

I took some photos at low tide last week that show how the shingle bank has changed over the last few years.

Comparing these with the next shots from 2010 its aparent that a lot of material is getting moved about by the tides, the sand banks and the channels are all different.
