Joolz,

Is that the old congregational church in Poulton...or rather was that the old congregational church in Poulton? What's happened to it? It looks like a steamrolled stage prop.

Hi

From what i know, the church is going to be a private house or apartments. But for some reason the builder had to keep the original front part of the church. hope that answers your question.

Cheers for the info John.

So, Joolz, when can we expect to see the finished result on Grand Designs?

The "new" church next to the 98% demolished church is, I understand, the original church which has been given an excellent rebuild.
The "new" church was used as the church hall for yonks (a century or so?) after the now demolished church was built. My parents were married at the now demolished Congregational church in the 1950s.
Building work on the flats is now carrying on apace. I gather the same building company is also doing a major extension at the 1960s Methodist Church over the road from the United Reformed Church.
The flats are being built on what was the church tennis courts. There was a glass a lean-to pavilion at the back of the church (opened by my mum in the mid 1960s)
The majority of Congregational Churches in this country linked up with the English (and Welsh?) Presbyterian denomination in the early 1970s to become The United Reformed Church.

Cheers for the info Anthony. (I deleted the repeated posts by the way...hope you don't mind. Looks like the forum's playing up again. It's been running extremely slowly recently.)

When you said the church had been used for yonks, I got a bit confused for a few moments and started trying to figure out what religious order 'yonks' belonged to. I haven't heard that expression for ages.
