Cheers Chris. Michelle's going to try and track down the source of whatever it was that made her think there was hamlet there, this weekend...if she gets the chance. It was some old document relating to the inordinate number of christenings there in a single month, or something. The likelihood of finding said document in her, shall we say 'unique' filing system, is another matter however...

Just to update a thread i started awhile ago regarding the old farm at Carleton, well most of it has now been demolished. As of today only the house remains and im sure that will go over the next few days! I spent a lot of time on the farm when i was at school but never got to go into the house as the brothers who farmed there were very private people. I often wondered what it was like inside. so i went there today and there is no back door so ventured inside. Talk about a time capsule! It was a lot older than i imagined, still had all the old gas mantels, hand cranked style clothes drier on the ceiling (sadly with Franks washing still hanging on it). the house appeared older though than i thought. I assumed it was built around 1890s but it seemed a lot older, has anyone any ideas to age of the place? There was no running hot water toilet or heating of any kind other than fires. It seems hard to imagine someone living in those conditions (house was falling down in every way possible) and having 4 million pound in the bank!

The pond isn't on our land, its owned by Karl Oyston (BFC) the land is up for sale most of the time, some other lads wanted to buy the land and make the pit deeper for fishing but there is a 'no excavation order' on the land as a pipeline runs thru it! he defo wouldn't rent it out as local farmer grows maze there and rents that and all surrounding fields.
