I recently completed some work towards a college course at Blackpool, for an Archaeology module on the 20th Century Military Archaeology of the South Fylde. If anyone would like a copy, please let me know. The work includes, types, locations, references and a bibliography. Happy to share it.

Although I'm a North Fyldean, Mike, I'm always interested in any research of all our area (I say "our", but am no longer a resident except via cyberspace, these days).

Mike kindly emailed me a copy of his piece of work re South Fylde and I would advise anyone interested in the military archaeology of the Fylde to have a look at this excellent piece of work. For myself, I was pleased to discover that Squires Gate had been a nightfighter station in WW2 and would seem to have had Boulton Paul Defiants stationed there (they were used as nightfighters during and after the Battle of Britain). So, any air buffs will find lots of interesting detail in Mike's piece. I, also, discovered that sections of the D-Day Mulberry harbours were constructed at Lytham. Anyone know a Junkers 88 was shot down off Lytham? Well it was...read Mike's piece!
