I've heard that rumour too, but couldn't confirm it. I wonder if they're going to bundle all the rubble into the new recycling centre door when they've finished.

Excellent...weather permitting we should get a great view of that lot going up from the top of Bourne Hill.

Just recieved this today..

Dear Resident Thornton Power Station

We are working at the disused power station carrying out the demolition of the station.
As part of the demolition process we are to demolish the boilers on the power station on Sunday 6th September 2009 at 1am.
As a routine safety precaution we shall establish a safety exclusion zone around the power station whilst we carry out the demolition. This will be shown by our sentries equipped with fluorescent jackets and radios.
With the agreement of the Football Club sentries will be placed on the corner of the playing field.
As a routine precaution please could you ensure that your windows are closed at the time of the demolition just in case there is any dust.
The main chimney demolition is planned for early November and we will keep you informed once the details are finalized.
*
We thank you for your co-operation in this matter and will ensure we keep any inconvenience to you to an absolute minimum.

John,

1 am? That's blown that then. Even I'm not daft enough to go up Bourne Hill at that unforgivable hour. Still...you and your neighbours are going to have a sleepless weekend I suspect.

Ah...now that's more like it, although I suspect that, true to form, it's going to be pi...er....raining cats and dogs all weekend.

It's good to see that we can't even demolish an eyesore properly these days. A more sensible option would have been to leave the doors unlocked for a couple of weeks and let the local vandals inside. Alternatively the ICI could have just sold it to Joey Blower and told him it was an historical building.
